I was appalled when I noticed my kids experiencing the same things: seated, screen in hand, hunched over and immobile yet stimulated and completely immersed in a digital life that met none of their basic human needs. I also found out that up to 83% of preschoolers and 85% of primary school-aged children in Australia exceed recommended daily screen time limits with most children spending over four hours daily on recreational screens. Crucial developmental areas like grip strength, fine motor skills, coordination, spatial reasoning, collaboration and above all imagination and creativity were being ignored. Every minute spent with a screen in hand was an opportunity lost!
